On 20 March, 2015, BYD Company Limited (BYD) announced the cooperation with Thailand-based LOXLEY Public Company Limited (LOXLEY), to start the Electric Strategy in Public Transport in Thailand.

Accordingly, LOXLEY will introduce BYD’s K9 electric bus and e6 electric car. Regarding the first batch delivered by BYD, LOXLEY targeted at Thailand large public transport companies, government departments, private institutions, car rental companies and schools.

Liu Xueliang, general manager of BYD’s Pacific-Asia Sales Department said: “We are very glad to partner with LOXLEY to forward the alternative energy vehicle business. In addition to vehicle supply, we will assist in technical support and professional training”.

On 6-15 March, 2015, the 2th International Electric Vehicle Expo was held in Jeju Island, South Korea. BYD with its hot-sale product - e6 electric car and other vehicles took part in the exhibition. During this, BYD announced the plan to march into South Korean market with its electric bus as a forerunner in H2 2015. Meanwhile, it plans to seek for opportunities to launch more vehicles on South Korean market, such as e6 electric car.

Electric vehicle (EV), as an emerging business to enter overseas markets, is required to go through a series of procedures such as government certification. Now BYD is arranging business with different local partners in South Korea.

That BYD has officially marched into Thailand and will step into South Korea indicates that BYD will continue to initiatively make its business layout in the global alternative energy vehicle market. CCM believes that BYD will set a good example for the domestic enterprises and in the future will lead more enterprises to open their overseas market.

We were always the only Chinese enterprise to participate in overseas exhibitions”, Liu Xueliang stated: “We hope that more Chinese enterprises will join us to together show our Chinese capability in developing alternative energy vehicle”.

In the international vehicle market, alternative energy vehicle may be the only breakthrough for Chinese vehicle manufacturers, as the Chinese enterprises are unable to seize any opportunities in the traditional oil-fueled vehicle. However, this requires Chinese enterprises to master the core technology.

For instance, BYD depends on its independently developed technology covering battery, electric control system and vehicle manufacturing to achieve the EV sales in 35 countries and regions. In 2014, its full-year sales volume of e6 electric car and K9 electric bus totaled 3,560 and 2,500 respectively.

In 2015, BYD will:

  • Continue to forward its plans to launch vehicle on different overseas markets
  • Give first place to sports utility vehicle (SUV) to release its hybrid electric vehicle
  •  Enrich product varieties by sustaining the Qin, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming & Qing series. To date it has launched Qin and Tang series (Song & Yuan in Q2 and Q3; Ming & Qing undetermined).

In addition, BYD also intends to enter the premium market, related products positioned to be similar to Model S from Tesla Motors, Inc.
