With more than 50 years' development, amide herbicides have become the most widely applied herbicide category in the world, playing a more and more important role in weed control thanks to its high popularity and low application cost. In global market, acetochlor, alachlor, metolachlor and butachlor are main amide herbicides in terms of sales volume. China is one of the largest suppliers of amide herbicides in the world. In China, as of Feb. 2012, more than 55 companies have registered amide herbicide technical in validity period. In domestic market, amide herbicides take up around 15.0%-20.0% of the total herbicides by market value every year. With the development of new post-emergent herbicides in China, together with the existing problems in amide herbicides such as toxicity and environmental pollution, there is a trend of decreasing market share of amide herbicides. Even so, amide herbicides have still maintained its position as one of the most widely used herbicides in China. In China, low-end amide herbicides still capture a large part of amide herbicides' market at present. However, with stricter policies on environmental protection in China and a high AI content demand increase in oversea market, methylene method for amide herbicide production is adopted by an increasing number of domestic producers. In China, manual weeding is being replaced by chemical weeding, which requires more herbicides in agricultural production, thus boosting the demand for herbicides in domestic market, including amide herbicides. In addition, there is a trend that mixed formulations between amide herbicides and other herbicides will develop well, which is also the main driver for the development of amide herbicide industry in China.
