Reportedly, US Steel is paring down its operations in Europe and is planning to sell its remaining European steel mill.
It is said that US Steel Kosice in Slovakia has received interest of purchase already. The plant with 5 million ton of capacity costs US Steel US$475 million in 2000, including two coke batteries, three blast furnaces and other sheeting facilities, tin mill products and pipes.
The company sold its only other European plant in Serbia for a symbolic US$1 back in January this year, triggering a US$450 million charge in the first quarter.
