The US Pittsburg-based aluminum maker Alcoa posted net loss of US$143 million for the third quarter, caused by the huge amounts of payments for lawsuit settlement.
In the third quarter, Alcoa spent US$175 million of special expenses for the lawsuit settlement with Environmental Protection Agency and Aluminum Bahrain BSC, and the firm's restructure project.
Also, the aluminum prices dropped by 17% year on year in the given period of time, making the firm's sales incomes reduce by 9.1% to US$5.83 billion.
Meanwhile, Alcoa cut its forecast for the 2012 global aluminum demand growth rate to 6%.
