China saw its electricity consumption rise 4.3% from a year earlier to 413.6 terawatt hours (TWhs) in June this year, according to statistics released by the National Energy Administration. The growth rate was 0.9 percentage points lower than the 5.2% it realized in May 2012.
In the first half of 2012, the country consumed 2,375.5 TWhs of electricity, 5.5% more than in the corresponding period of 2011. During the period from January to June, the primary industry consumed 46.5 TWhs, reflecting a decrease of 2% YoY. The power consumption of secondary industry was 1,758 TWhs, 3.7% more than a year earlier. Meanwhile, the tertiary industry consumed 267.3 TWhs, up 12.1% compared with the same period of last year.
The country added 25.85 million kilowatt (kW) of new capacity in the six-month period, of which, 5.64 million kW from hydroelectric and 15.87 million kW from thermal power
