China, along with other emerging countries, has been a role model in the UN's campaign for promoting sustainable energy and providing energy for all, UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon said Monday at the ongoing World Future Energy Summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi.

China has been recently investing large amounts of money in an innovative way and is "making very smart investments," Ban said when asked by Xinhua how he sees China's role in the " International Year of Sustainable Energy for All" that kicked off Monday.

"I am constantly citing the examples of China, India, South Africa, Brazil and Nigeria. These countries do not wait until the international community formulates a certain formula. They know their programs," he said.

The goal of the UN program "Sustainable Energy for All" can only be achieved by the year of 2030 through initiatives of individual governments, Ban said. "China's activity and investments help to make this program successful."

The four-day WFES was inaugurated by Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan. International leaders from across the world attended the summit to discuss fossil fuels, nuclear energy and the growth of renewable energy.

"We should provide energy to everybody in the world. I am acting as the UN General Secretary and I hope that my message is loud and clear to all the leaders. We must have the capacity to invest in technology to work together to achieve the 'Sustainable energy for all' objective in 2030," Ban said.(Source: Xinhua)
