According to report, BlueScope Steel announced on Monday that it planned to acquire Arrium's OneSteel division for sheet and coil procession and distribution businesses.
BlueScope would pay AUD23.1 million and it is expected that it would cost AUD7 million to integrate the business to the company's existing operations.
In fact, the two companies buy and sell steel from each other. But BlueScope may not use the distribution centers to sell steel long products.
BlueScope also acquired Orrcon, a tube and pipe maker and distributors, and Fielders, the steelmaker of roll-formed sections and construction products in August this year.
The company plans to integrate all these business as it may help reduce costs.
However, this purchase plan will need the approval from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
