Reportedly, Brazil's aluminum output decreased by 7.8% year on year in August due to high domestic energy costs and low metal prices discouraging new investments in primary production.
According to figures released by Brazilian aluminum association Abal, production stood at 111,600 tons in August, compared with 121,000 tons in the same month in 2012.
In the first eight months of this year, the country's aluminum production dropped by 8.3% in comparison to the same period in 2012 to 888,400 tons.
The domestic aluminum demand is expected to end 2013 with a 4.1% growth in comparison to the year before, driving up imports in the medium to long term.
