On June 3, construction of the Myanmar-China Oil and Gas pipeline project officially started.
Before the commencement ceremony, at the witness of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Myanmar Prime Minister Thein Sein, CNPC and MOGE signed a shareholder agreement on Southeast Asia Oil Pipeline Co., rights and obligations agreement on Southeast Asia Gas Pipeline Co. and a shareholder agreement on Southeast Asia Gas Pipeline Co.. The agreements defined CNPC Southeast Asia Co., Ltd. as the controlling party of the joint venture to be in charge of the design, construction, operation, expansion and maintenance of the Myanmar oil and gas pipeline.
The gas pipeline has a 793km-long section and the crude pipeline has a 771 km-long section in Myanmar. A crude oil terminal will also be built on the west coast of Myanmar's Kyaukryu. Both the pipelines start from Myanmar's Kyaukryu and end at Kunming, capital city of Yunnan Province.
