On January 9, CNPC was granted seven awards at the presenting ceremony of China's 2008 State Top Scientific and Technological Awards at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

"Development and preparation process of α-olefin oil pipeline drag reducer" won the second prize of National Technological Invention. Six projects won the second prize of National Science and Technology Advancement, including "New theories and technologies of efficient exploration and development of natural gas from China's key onshore gas provinces and their application", "Logging interpretation theories, methods and applications for acid volcanic rocks", "Catalyst of in-situ crystallization type for heavy oil effective transforming, catalyzing and cracking and its integrated engineering technologies", "Technologies and their application for heavy oil wastewater recycling and reuse", "Industrial application technologies of polymer flooding", and "Development and application of technologies in construction of the ecologic shelter-forest for Tarim Desert Highway".
