In 2008, CNPC accomplished extensive reorganization and integration of its engineering and technical service business in order to optimize its resource advantage. As a result, remarkable improvements have been achieved in management level, investment control and operation efficiency, as well as service competence and market competitiveness.

CNPC's workload in geophysical prospecting, well drilling and downhole operations increased significantly, with great improvement in operation efficiency and quality. Advanced geophysical prospecting technologies, including 3-D and 4-D seismic, have been mastered. Horizontal drilling, deep and ultra-deep well drilling, directional drilling, underbalanced drilling, PDC drilling bits, high-quality mud and completion fluid have been in wide application. Good results have been seen in foam drilling, gas drilling and nitrogen drilling. Technical advances have been obtained in well logging and downhole operation, with extensive application of coiled tubing, sidetracking workover, fracture acidizing and comprehensive treatment in reservoirs. In addition, we have made further improvements in pipeline construction, field surface engineering and construction, as well as in refining and chemical unit designing and construction.
