The world's biggest wheat crop producer in China is facing a critical situation when a drought across most of its range lasts. The United Nations warned that cold temperatures could also devastate wheat yields. The UN's food agency warned that rainfall shortage over the last four months had put about 5.2 million hectares of winter wheat at risk of drought damage. In addition, the crops are vulnerable to damage from low temperatures during the rest of the winter.
