India pushes for fertiliser deal with Belarus

   

   

   

India is interested in inking a long-term deal with Belarus to secure potash fertiliser supplies which the demand has risen sharply in the recent years.

   

   

Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jyotiraditya M. Scindia who is on an official visit to the eastern European country discussed the issue with its Prime Minister Mikhail V. Myasnikovich Tuesday (Jan 31), an official release said.

   

   

"India has shown interest in a long-term agreement to secure supply of potash fertiliser from Belarus," according to the statement released Wednesday by the ministry of commerce and industry here following the meeting.

   

   

Belarus is one of the largest producers and suppliers of potash. Main import item of India from Belarus is potash.

   

   

Scindia, accompanied by senior officials from the department of fertilisers, also hold discussion with his counterpart and business leaders from Belarus.

   

   

"India is interested in setting up a joint venture in Belarus for production of potash fertiliser," Scindia said in the meeting.
