Indonesia's 2012 feed consumption reaches 13.9 million tonnes
The consumption of Indonesia's animal and aquaculture feed reached 13.9 million tonnes in 2012.
Based on data from Indonesian Feed Mills Association (GPMT), total consumption of animal feed in 2012 was around 12.7 million tonnes, an increase of 12.39% compared to 2011, which is only 11.3 million tonnes. The composition of animal feed consumption is 45% broilers, 44% layers, 9% breeders and the rest are other livestocks.
While total consumption of fish and shrimp feed reached 1.2 million tonnes, up 20% compared to 2011, which was only one million tonnes.
This year the consumption of animal and aquaculture feed in Indonesia has the potential to grow by 12%, to 15.5 million tonnes. Animal feed consumption is projected to grow 8.66%, to 13.8 million tonnes.
While fish and shrimp feed consumption are projected to increase 15% and 30%, respectively, according to aquaculture division chairman of GPMT, Denny Indradjaja. "Increased consumption of shrimp feedis triggered due to shrimp pond revitalisation programme by the government."
