French farmers oppose animal protein in feed
Two-thirds of French farmers oppose the recent EU Commission proposal to loosen up regulations on animal protein in the diet of pigs and poultry.
According to a survey conducted on July 11 to 18, 65.1% of the 324 responding farmers opposed the introduction of animal protein in feed for pigs and poultry, while 26.5% were in favour.
This reluctance is less pronounced in other EU countries, but agricultural unions fear that the incorporation of animal proteins in livestock will be another source of trade distortion among European competitors.
