Kemin reveals dioxin testing programme
Press Release
Kemin Industries has revealed an advanced programme for detecting both dioxins and PCBs (toxic dioxin congeners) in raw ingredients.
Dr. John Springate, president of Kemin Agrifoods, noted that the programme was initiated in 2010 to test raw ingredients used by the company that came from natural sources. He stated, "Kemin purchases and farms a number of botanical materials, oils and animal products that could potentially be contaminated with these compounds. As part of our rigorous quality control programmes, we have installed state-of-the-art analytical equipment and laboratory procedures to test these materials for dioxins and PCBs."
The company's dioxin testing programme includes the use of a high-resolution gas chromatography-magnetic sector mass spectrometer that is capable of detecting dioxin and PCB isomers at levels exceeding EU standards. This testing programme is in place at all of Kemin's manufacturing sites in Asia, China, Europe, India, South America and the US.
In addition to the dioxin testing programme, Kemin follows Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Feed Additives and Premixtures Quality System (FAMI-QS) programmes. The Kemin facility in North America was also the first to receive the FAMI QS/International Safe Feed/Safe Food (I-SF/SF) certificate last September.
