EU allows feed fodder to contain animal protein
The European Commission has withdrawn its zero-tolerance policy for animal protein in animal feed fodder as of February 26.
Sugar beet was the only exception in the past. The Commission is now relaxing the measure due to the constantly reducing prevalence of Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) or mad cow disease.
In the past, animal feed companies could face serious charges if traces of animal bone from the soil were transmitted to hay, grain or other feed raw materials. The improvement of analytical methods also led to the quick and easy discovery of these traces.
