British food exports to China surge 82% in 2013
Near-doubling of sales of pork and salmon led to an 82% jump in British food exports to China last year, making the country the UK's 11th largest and the second important food and drinks market outside European Union, reported by Financial Times.
According to UK's Food and Drink Federation, the value of British food and drinks exports to China topped £201 million (US$333.14 million) in 2013, a staggering increase of £92 million (US$152.48 million) on-year.
The Chinese government allowed the import of salmon and pork from the UK for the first time in 2011. In 2013, UK saw a surge of 92% in pork exports and a jump of 90% in Scottish salmon exports to the country.
