Diamond V announces food safety director
Mike Mitchell, North American poultry director, announced that Douglas Smith, Ph.D. has joined Diamond V as food safety director, enhancing Diamond V''s research and technical service programmes in North America.

"Diamond V products, including Original XPCTM, provide unique, research-proven, pre-harvest food safety technology," Mitchell said. "We''re looking forward to Dr. Smith''s role in refining and advancing Diamond V''s food safety initiative."
Dr. Smith has come to Diamond V with more than 20 years of experience in food safety research, shown in more than 90 refereed journal articles, along with a list of book chapters, conference proceedings, and trade journal articles.
Most recently he was an associate professor in the Prestage Department of Poultry Science at North Carolina State University and an adjunct professor at Clemson University''s Department of Food, Nutrition, and Packaging Science.
Dr. Smith also has been a research food technologist with the US Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service, an assistant professor in Poultry Science at the University of Georgia, and director of quality assurance with OK Foods in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Dr. Smith has long-standing memberships in the Poultry Science Association, World''s Poultry Science Association, and International Association for Food Protection. In addition, he is a Servsafe Certified Instructor and Proctor.
Dr. Smith received his Ph.D. and M.S. in Poultry Science from the University of Georgia and was awarded both the Sigma Xi Outstanding Ph.D. Dissertation Award and the Poultry Science Association''s Graduate Student Research Paper Certificate of Excellence.
