US Wisconsin dairy export up 23% in H1 2013

   

   

   

In the first half of 2013, Wisconsindairy export value rose 23% compared to the same period of 2012.

   

   

Wisconsin was placed fourth nationwide boosted by its US$171 million value of dairy- related products- its highest agricultural export, ahead of raw foreskins, food ingredients, ethanol, and cereal grains.

   

   

"Our agriculture industry continues to be a strong cornerstone of our state''s economy, and the overall increase of Wisconsin exports is good for our economy and the hard-working employees who help produce great products," Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker said in a recent statement.

   

   

Over the six-month period, Canada, China and Mexico were the primary export destinations. Overall, the state has exported US$1.6 billion worth of agricultural products to 132 countries this year- a 10% increase over 2012. Wisconsin ranks 13th for overall agricultural exports in the US, up from 14th for same period last year.

   

   

In July, Wisconsin farmers received an average price of US$19.10/hundredweight (cwt) for their milk, up US$1.30 from the same month last year, according to the USDA''s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS).

   

   

NASS reported that the projected domestic milk price for August is US$19.30 cwt. Outside of Missouri and Florida, all major milk producing states nationally are predicting a higher price for August, NASS said. Michigan expects a US$0.50 increase to US$20.40 cwt., while Idaho is expected to jump US$0.40 to US$18.50.

   

   

August 30''s forty-block cheese prices closed at US$1.7825/pound on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME). The CME butter price was US$1.4375/pound.

   

   

NASS reported for the week ending August 24, the Agricultural Marketing Services US weekly 40-pound block price averaged US$1.7769/pound, and 500-pound barrels adjusted to 38% moisture averaged US$1.7972. The US butter price was US$1.3577.
