Mar. 18, 2011 - Future of Functional Oligosaccharide Market in China, a new report released by CCM yesterday, dwells on 11 kinds of functional oligosaccharide now existing in China, namely: isomalto-oligosaccharide, fructo-oligosaccharide, xylo-oligosaccharide, galacto oligosaccharide, stachyose, raffinose, soy-oligosaccharide, isomaltulose, chitosan-oligosaccharide, trehalose, and malto-oligosaccharide. This report also introduces the strength and weakness of the present production technology, its main consumption market, application and the prediction of risk and chance to invest in this industry.

"Functional oligosaccharides in China hadn't achieved commercialization until IMO was produced in large-scale by Baolingbao Biology Co., Ltd. in 1996", the report points out. After that, China's functional oligosaccharide market is getting on its fast track, giving credit to the large demands and the low production cost in China. But this report also indicates that compared with the US, Japan and EU market, it is still the infant stage of this industry due to its lack in high value-added production and the imperfection in product services. According to CCM's statistics, the output of functional oligosaccharide took up about 30% of total in the world in 2008. Now, China becomes the production base and rising consumption market. It's estimated that there are about 70 manufacturers in China, with an annual output capacity of 300,000 tonnes, while it turned out only 120,000 tonnes of output in 2010. But the industrial turnover came up to US$350 billion. Major products in China are IMO, FOS, SBOS, XOS and malto-oligosaccharide. Most of the functional oligosaccharides are produced by enzyme method, only a few by extracting method.

Thisreport suggeststhat due to the different choices in raw materials,aChinese manufacturer can only produce 2 kinds of functional oligosaccharides at most, and most of them gather in districts rich in raw materials like Shandong, Shanxi, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Guangdong province.

Now, it becomes a trend to synthesize and upgrade the resources of the whole industry, and leading companies like Baolingbao Biology Co., Ltd.(Baolingbao Biology), Jiangmen Quantum Hi-tech Biological Co., Ltd. (Quantum Hi-tech), Shandong Longlive Bio-technology Co., Ltd. (Shandong Longlive)are getting the big share in the trend.

Functional oligosaccharide mainly covers diary, foods, health care products, beverages, pharmaceuticals, feed additives and agriculture industries. Sugar alcohol, sucroseand inulin are the three major competitive products, each striking up and down in its own downstream markets.

One professional researcher of this report predicts, Chinese functional oligosaccharide industry will attract more investors to its domestic market in the future, and it urgently needs to grow and the positive industrial synthesis promises to increase in high value-added products. Meanwhile, he reminds investors of the risk of cost increase brought by the pressure on RMB, the enforcement of new labor law and the global financial crisis.
