Hebei Nov crude steel output drops 15.8pct on mth

Crude steel output in China’s top producer Hebei province fell 15.8% on month to 12.21 million tonnes last month, as mills halted operations during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in Beijing in early November.November’s output decline, much bigger than a 5% drop in October, was the third consecutive monthly fall for the province, showed data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).That accounted for 19.3% of the country’s total, compared to an average level of 25%. It however was up 6.4% from the previous year.In the first eleven months of the year, the province produced a total 171.27 million tonnes of crude steel, down 3.6% from the year before.During the same period, Hebei saw its coke output decrease 14.2% from the year prior to 51.4 million tonnes. November output was 3.94 million tonnes, down 11.4% on month and down 9% year on year, as coke plants were also ordered to reduce or shut operations for cleaner air during the APEC meetings.The province produced 219.9 million tonnes of steel products over January-Novmeber, up 3% year on year; with November output down 12.6% on month but up 9% from the year-ago level to 17.86 million tonnes.
