In 2015, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) conducted four routine monitoring campaigns for agro-product quality & safety in 151 large and medium sized cities across 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities). The monitoring campaigns recorded 94 indexes of 117 product items under 5 broad categories. Altogether 43,924 samples were tested and the overall pass rate was 96.9%. The pass rates of vegetables, livestock & poultry products, aquatic products, fruits and tea registered 96.3%, 99.2%, 93.6%, 96.8% and 94.8%, respectively. The data indicated that the quality and safety of agro-products remained stable throughout the year.
According to the requirements of MOA, competent local authorities should strengthen their efforts of supervision, conduct random inspections on agro-product quality & safety, and investigate and handle substandard products as well as related manufacturers in accordance with the law.
In light of the decisions made in the Central Rural Work Conference and the national conference on controlling "table pollution", in 2015 China will continue to carry out rectification campaigns against illegal use and abuse of veterinary antibiotics and illicit slaughtering of sick or dead livestock and poultry, enhance supervision over law enforcement, and take severe measures against all illegal activities and irregularities in this regard.
MOA has already launched the national routine monitoring campaign (risk monitoring) for agro-product quality & safety in 2015 and intensified efforts for the work during the upcoming Spring Festival, in order to spot problems in a timely manner and ensure consumer safety.
