Dow introduces Conkesta™ soy trait to combat pests
Dow Agroscience recently unveiled a new insect-resistant soybean trait that will help farmers combat lepidopteran pests.
The product, which Dow Agroscience markets using a new brand name, Conkesta™, is currently undergoing regulatory processes in key soybean countries around the world.
It is the first trait with two Bt proteins to be brought into consideration by these countries.
Once approved, Dowwill work for a broad licensing of Conkesta to seed companies and increased access to it by farmers.
In addition, it will be offered with the company''s Enlist™soybean traits in elite and high-yielding varieties. The package will provide a potent combination of weed management and insect control as well as tolerance to multiple herbicides.
According to Dow, Conkesta™ will provide improved in-plant protection against lepidopteran pests, while also strengthening sustainability of the technology compared to other similar soybean products with just one Bt protein.
Conkesta™ is originally developed for the South American market.
Alongside Argentina, Brazil is another promising market for Conkesta™ given the serious yield losses it suffered yearly due to damages caused by insects.
