New feed mill to open on Russia's Sakhalin Island
A new feed mill is slated to open on Sakhalin Island, Russia's largest island situated off its east coast, before the year ends.
Oleg Zubahin, head of the project, which is being built by Russian firm Mercy Agro Sakhalin, said the new feed mill will use the standard feed ingredients including wheat, corn and soybeans.
"We are planning to import soy and wheat from the Amur Oblast and the Altai Krai, while corn will be mostly grown on the Sakhalin", he said.
The new feed mill is meant to fully meet the demand for feed production of Mercy Agro Sakhalin's pig farms. It will also supply the Sakhalin Island market and the neighbouring regions.
Zubahin said the facility "will produce feed for pig, cattle, poultry and fish farms".
It is also expected that the feed mill will help increase the profitability of food-animal farms in the region, Zubahin added.
