China’s exports of coke and semi-coke reached 560,000 tonnes in February, up 1.8% year on year but down 47.7% from the month before, showed data released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on March 8.It was the seventh consecutive year-on-year increase, which was mainly due to abolishment of the 40% export tariff from February 2013 to ease domestic oversupply. The big month-on-month drop was mainly due to the Lunar New Year holidays, which fell in mid-February this year. Chinese exporters usually boost trades before the holidays to minimize impacts. The value of the February exports totaled $101.41 million, down 24.8% year on year and falling 44.4% from January. That translates into an average price of $181.09, up $10.6/t from the month prior but down $63.95/t from a year ago.Over January-February, China exported a total 1.63 million tonnes of coke, up 26.5% on year, with total value fell 8.8% from the previous year to $283.82 million.
