China Apr coke exports up 4.4pct on mth

China’s exports of coke and semi-coke reached 710,000 tonnes in April, surging 51.1% year on year and up 4.4% from the month before, showed data released by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) on May 8.It was the ninth consecutive year-on-year increase, largely attributed to the government’s cancellation of a 40% tariff on exports of steelmaking material from January 2013.The value of the April exports totaled $123.44 million, up 24.6% year on year and 2.7% higher than March. That translates into an average price of $173.86, down $2.95/t from the month prior and down $36.91/t from a year ago.Over January-April, China exported a total 3.02 million tonnes of coke, up 25.4% on year, with total value decreasing 7.7% from the previous year to $527.49 million.
