The 3rd Cross-strait Symposium on Pesticide Management held successfully
     
 
Taipei--The 3rd Cross-strait Symposium on Pesticide Management was held in Taipei during June 26--July 3, 2012. ICAMA Deputy Director-General Liu Yongquan headed a seven-member delegation to attend the Symposium.   The Symposium is hosted by the Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ), Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan. More than 80 participants attended the Symposium, including representatives from Taiwan Agricultural Chemicals and Toxic Substances Research Institute under the Council of Agriculture (TACTRI/COA), Taiwan Crop Protection Industry Association and pesticide manufacturers from Taiwan.
 
 
In his address at the opening ceremony Liu briefed pesticide management and the development of Taiwan pesticide enterprises in Chinese mainland. He highlighted the importance of strengthening communication on pesticide management and agricultural trade across strait. He expressed his hope that Taiwan and Chinese mainland will intensify cooperation in pesticide-related standard-setting and achievements-sharing, and establish long-term liaison mechanism to promote the regular of exchange and cooperation activities. 
 
 
At the Symposium, experts across the Strait made presentations on a wide range of topics, including the latest policies and measures on pesticide registration and management, post-registration management, the progress in setting MRLs, the implementation of permit system for pesticides business, safe application of pesticides and pesticide residue assessment. Both sides exchanged views on the research and application of biopesticides in Taiwan and the experiences of hosting meetings of Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR) by Chinese mainland. In addition, both sides also had an in-depth discussion about issues of common concern, in particular harmonization of across-strait MRLs for agricultural products, disease and pest control and pesticide application for tea plantation, registration of Bio-pesticides and Nano-pesticides, inspection and quarantine of imported pesticide products and long-term cooperation. Both sides put forward suggestions on the above-mentioned issues. After the Symposium, the mainland delegation, accompanied by BAPHIQ Deputy Director-General Fei Wenqi, visited TACTRI/COA, Taiwan Tea Research and Extension Station (TRES), Taiwai Jiatai Co. Ltd., and Taiwan Funong and Taiwan Funong Chemical Co. Ltd.
