MOA Chief Agronomist Sun Zhonghua met Ms. Sue Ellspermann, Lieutenant Governor of the State of Indiana of US, and her delegation in Beijing on July 1, 2015. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening China-US agricultural cooperation.
Sun noted that China and US have enjoyed steady development in agricultural cooperation featuring well-functioned mechanisms, fruitful achievements in agricultural S&T exchange, steady growth in agricultural trade and investment in recent years. Agricultural cooperation has been emerging as a highlight of bilateral relations.
Sun put forward a four-point proposal for future bilateral agricultural cooperation: first, conduct practical cooperation in areas identified in the Sino-US Plan of Strategic Cooperation in Agriculture; second, jointly boost mutual investment and a healthy and sustainable trade in agriculture; third, enhance agricultural cooperation by bond of province/state sisterhood; and fourth, foster cooperation in personnel exchanges and human development.
Ellspermann said that Indiana is a major agricultural state of US and highly values agricultural cooperation with China. She agreed with Sun on the above proposal, and expressed her hope to work with China in agricultural S&T, investment, trade, personnel training and rural development to press ahead with the bilateral agricultural cooperation.
