Vice Minister Qu Dongyu met Mr. Claudio Ternicier, Vice Minister of Agriculture of Chile, and his delegation in Beijing on August 27, 2015. The two sides exchanged views on strengthening China-Chile agricultural cooperation.
Vice Minister Qu noted that with joint effort over recent years, China and Chile have made encouraging achievements in agricultural cooperation. In particular, the jointly-sponsored demonstration farms have become the bond of friendly exchange and cooperation between China and Chile.
In order to further the bilateral cooperation in the future, Qu put forward the following suggestions:
First, press ahead with the development of demonstration farms in both China and Chile to spur rapid agricultural growth;
Second, boost the cooperation in agricultural trade and investment and promote agricultural integration; and
Third, enhance innovation in agricultural S&T, market and management systems to jointly promote sustainable agricultural development in both countries.
Mr. Claudio Ternicier stated that the satisfactory progress made in bilateral cooperation is the result of close cooperation between the two ministries. Mr. Claudio Ternicier agreed with Qu on his suggestions and expressed his hope to expand pragmatic cooperation in agricultural policies, farm machinery, agricultural investment and trade under the framework of the China-Chile five-year plan on agricultural cooperation signed by the two ministries in 2012.
