Southern China’s Guangdong province imported 4.27 million tonnes of
coal
, rising 81.28% year on year and up 10.19% month on month, according to the latest customs data.Total value of the September imports was $214.5 million, which translates to an average price of $50.23/t, rising $1.3/t on month but down $24.1/t on year.Imports of thermal coal, mainly used for power generation, stood at 3.82 million tonnes in September, falling 0.75% month on month but up 5.52% on year.Of this, lignite imports accounted for around 63.6% or 2.43 million tonnes, rising 27.43 from August and up 24.63% year on year.The province imported 0.45 million tonnes of coking coal in September, soaring 110.22% on month and up 115.46% on year.Over January-September, the province imported a total 34.79 million tonnes of coal, up 31.57% year on year, data showed.Total thermal coal imports during the same period reached 31.3 million tonnes, down 23.22% on year, with lignite imports at 17.36 million tonnes, down 12.33%; while coking coal imports was 3.22 million tonnes, up 64.71%.
