The Chinese delegation attended the 16th Regular Session of the Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA 16) of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Rome during Jan. 30-Feb. 3, 2017. China was elected as member of both the Inter-governmental Technical Working Groups on Animal Genetic Resources and Forest Genetic Resources.
It is believed that China's membership in the two working groups will increase its voice and influence in technical standards-setting for livestock and forest genetic resources, facilitate the preparation for the report on The State of the World's Genetic Resources and advance the implementation of the Global Plan of Action.
The agenda of the CGRFA 16 focused on the preparation of The State of the World's Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture, the access to genetic resources for food and agriculture and related benefit-sharing mechanisms, and the conservation and sustainable use of aquatic, animal, forest and plant genetic resources.
